Ragnarok Landverse, a blockchain-enhanced massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) within the classic Ragnarok Online franchise, is scheduled to be launched on the Ethereum sidechain gaming network Ronin in early 2025.
The Ronin edition, named Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis, is slated for release on Ronin after a previous soft launch on the BNB Chain. The developer Maxion, in collaboration with Ragnarok publisher Gravity, disclosed that the game has already generated around $15 million in NFT sales in anticipation of the Ronin expansion, with a player base exceeding 400,000 to date.
Ragnarok Landverse is a free-to-play PC and Android game that maintains similarities to the original Ragnarok Online, a highly influential and popular MMORPG introduced in 2002. Nevertheless, this version integrates blockchain aspects like mineable resources and token incentives.
The Genesis edition debuting on Ronin is viewed as a “fresh start” for the game, indicating that assets from other Landverse servers will not be transferrable initially. However, there are plans for these servers to transition to Ronin at a later stage. Zentry, the parent company of Maxion, will also operate a validator node on the Ronin network as part of this expansion. The company positions itself as constructing a “metagame ecosystem” of interconnected Web3 games. Zentry underwent a rebranding from its former name of GuildFi in April.
Landverse will be the second Ragnarok game to be released on Ronin, following the introduction of Ragnarok: Monster World. This mobile game drew inspiration from Supercell’s popular Clash Royale, where two players lead teams of creatures into battle, aiming to be the first to conquer the opponent’s base.
Ronin stands out as a prominent gaming network within the Ethereum ecosystem, serving as the platform for major crypto games like Pixels and Axie Infinity, the latter developed by Sky Mavis, the studio behind the network’s creation. Since its inception alongside Axie Infinity, the network has progressively expanded to encompass additional games from external developers.
Pre-registration is currently available for Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis, enabling players to link their Ronin digital wallets for potential rewards before the launch.
In November, DeLabs Games announced another blockchain game set in the Ragnarok universe, with intentions to release it via the Telegram messaging app in Q1 2025.
