In a latest development, the Hong Kong Legislative Council Committee on Web3 and Virtual Asset Development announced the election results for the chairperson and vice chairperson. According to Legislative Council document CB(1)769/2024, Legislative Council member Wu Jiezhuang was successfully elected as the chairperson of the committee. The establishment of the Committee on Web3 and Virtual Asset Development aims to examine the application and development of Web3 and virtual asset technologies in Hong Kong, and to provide recommendations on relevant regulations and policies.
The first meeting of the committee is scheduled to be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 4:30pm to 5:00pm at Conference Room 2A of the Legislative Council Complex. Wu Jiezhuang expressed gratitude on social media for the support of fellow Legislative Council members in establishing the policy research group, and thanked legislators Qiu Dagen and Li Zhenqiang for nominating him as the chairperson. He vowed to work actively with the SAR government, industry, and society in the coming year to make the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region an international center for Web3.
