Despite the recent downturn in the market, the enthusiasm and anticipation for “Runes” remains high. As a dedicated player in the NFT field, I have had two profound observations in the past week. First, Bitcoin NFT is the only place in the NFT market that has garnered attention both domestically and internationally, without engaging in player versus player (PvP) activities. The only other chains that have some level of popularity are Base, which is mainly dominated by English-speaking players and focused on art projects, making it more challenging to play compared to Bitcoin. Second, the “Runes” project has become the main focus of the Bitcoin NFT market. Although “Bitcoin Wizards” and the BRC-20 token $WZRD on the “Bitcoin Puppets” meme have experienced significant increases in the past week, the strong correlation can be attributed to the recent explosion of the “Bitcoin Puppets,” which is related to “Runes.”
I previously provided a review of the “Runes” project (related reading: Will Runestone Bring a Rune Frenzy? An Overview of 14 Noteworthy Runes). It has been a month since then, and “Runes” has not only become the absolute focus of the Bitcoin NFT market but has also undergone some changes in terms of the projects that are gaining attention. Now, projects that are simply “mining machines” are no longer attractive. Projects that gain attention and have communities, or projects that have a narrative related to “Runes infrastructure” (such as Launchpad, DEX, browsers, etc.), are the ones that stand out. After all, once the token is launched, the competition is no longer about mining techniques but about real consensus or narrative competition.
Well-known “Runes” projects have already reached high positions, such as Rune stone, Rune Pups, and RSIC. I would like to summarize some recent developments of the Ordinals new projects worth paying attention to.
Prometheans by CyberKongz
The OG project CyberKongz, which pioneered the NFT staking mining gameplay on ETH, has entered the Bitcoin NFT ecosystem. This project was once a top-tier blue-chip project, with a floor price of nearly 200 ETH and its token $BANANA reaching a peak price of $105, with a market cap close to $90 million.
Prometheans is CyberKongz’s official “Runes” project. Although the ultimate goal is to achieve “Runes” tokens, this is the most meticulously crafted “Runes” project I have seen in terms of “artistic quality.” CyberKongz has diligently introduced the art design behind this project on their official Twitter, and it can be said that they have created a “mining machine” with the standards of a “collectible”…
This project will be launched this week, with a free mint and a total supply of 21,000, with 85% allocated to Ordinals ecological cooperation projects selected by CyberKongz and 15% allocated to CyberKongz holders.
Starlight Runes by Rosentica
Rosentica is an anime NFT project founded by artists @rmflawha12 and @TabinekoKIKI on ETH. Following the trend of “Runes,” Rosentica is also about to enter the Bitcoin NFT ecosystem with the “Runes” project “Starlight Runes.”
This project will have a free mint, with a total supply of 2,000, with the majority allocated to Rosentica NFT holders and the remaining portion allocated to their selected Ordinals ecological cooperative community.
Everyday Satoshis
First of all, it should be mentioned that this project will have a token called $CLTR, but it is uncertain whether this token will be a “Rune.”
I actually started paying attention to this project at the end of September last year. Now, after half a year, the halving and “Runes” are coming, and this project has finally been unveiled.
The artist @Degen_Alfie has proven himself on ETH, such as with the work “Degen Alphabet” which sold for 69.420 ETH on SuperRare in October 2022.
Everyday Satoshis is a pixel art series created to commemorate the halving, with a total of 5,586. From the Bitcoin genesis block to the upcoming fourth halving, 15 years and 5,586 days. Each pixel block contains data showing the date from the genesis block to the fourth halving, as well as the daily highest price of Bitcoin against the US dollar.
@Degen_Alfie revealed that shortly after the launch of Everyday Satoshis, his team’s blockchain art marketplace will also go live with the V1 version. The team currently has 12 members, and he raised a round of small angel investments in January this year. So this is not only a great halving commemorative Bitcoin NFT art series but also has a taste of a new blockchain art marketplace genesis series.
BLIFStone
Opal Protocol’s benefit to Runestone holders. If you hold Runestone, don’t forget to like and retweet this tweet and leave your bc1p address that holds Runestone.
To be honest, I don’t really understand what Opal Protocol is trying to do… but one thing I understand is that what they want to do will be driven by their token $BLIF, which will be a fusion of ETH + BRC-20 + Runes. From a degen perspective, Opal has a strong background, with Animoca Brands and Darewise as the project’s founders. Darewise is a subsidiary of Animoca, and they have a game called “Life Beyond” that announced last year that they would be migrating to the Bitcoin ecosystem and have also released a series called “Sparks,” which is an exclusive social circle entrance ticket.
KarmaStone
OCM (OnChainMonkey) released their own token $KARMA on the Tap protocol earlier this year, and now they are continuing to make moves in the “Runes” space. Further details are yet to be disclosed.
The Rune Hunt
@RuneX_Tech has created a web game using the Unreal Engine, allowing players to “pre-mine” their “Runes” tokens through the game. I have to say, the activities that arise from infrastructure competition are really something else…
After the game went live yesterday, the server was overwhelmed. The reopening time will depend on the notification from the project party, so everyone can stay tuned.
In addition, in the competition among “Runes” infrastructure projects to attract attention, I believe that RuneX and Runes Terminal, which just launched the Ape Odyssey series, are currently performing the best.
Pixel Pix
@gamestarter’s own game studio GGXYZ Studio is working on a P2E game to be released on Bitcoin, but there are currently not many details available.
In conclusion, there have been too many new Bitcoin NFT projects launched recently, and many of my friends are in a rhythm of participating in at least three projects in a day. It is indeed easier to win in the rush for new projects, but we must not be too FOMO and maintain a cautious attitude in selecting projects.
For “Runes” projects, I believe we can expect to see more NFT projects from ETH and other chains entering the Bitcoin ecosystem. After all, “Runes” is currently one of the hottest narratives in the entire crypto community. When selecting “Runes” projects, the key is to assess the project’s own influence and community quality. Simply relying on flashy mining gameplay is no longer enough to stand out in the competition.
In a situation where multiple projects are launched within a short time frame in a day, you may need to split your UTXOs more reasonably because the confirmation time for two Bitcoin blocks is long and unstable. A congested chain can affect your mood and even cause you to miss the minting time for some projects. I recommend referring to this article:
Runes Protocol to Launch Soon, What Preparation Do Users Need?
Finally, I wish you all a fruitful “Runes” season, and I will do my best to update you on new projects worth paying attention to.
