Congressmen Sean Casten, Bill Foster (IL-11), Brad Sherman (CA-32), and Emanuel Cleaver (MO-05) have jointly introduced the Blockchain Integrity Act, a bill that aims to temporarily prohibit financial institutions, including cryptocurrency exchanges, virtual asset service providers, and other registered currency service businesses, from transacting with funds that have been mixed using digital asset mixers. The suspension period will last for two years.
During this suspension period, the legislation directs the Department of the Treasury, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and the Department of Justice to conduct research on digital asset mixers, privacy coins, and anonymous enhancement technologies. This includes providing statistical data on their illicit uses, information on their legitimate uses, and tailored technological solutions to address specific instances of illicit use.
